Let’s face it, no one likes being a newbie. Anxieties of the unknown and failure lurk in the corner of your mind which is already overflowing with questions. What if I can’t keep up and hurt myself? What if I don’t know the exercises? What if it’s too hard? These are exactly the reasons why Phoenix has an introductory course available for any new members, as well as those who want to refresh their knowledge.
Fundamentals is a preliminary course designed to introduce new members to the basic movements and mechanics of functional fitness. This PROGRAM gives you the dedicated coaching time needed to transition into regular classes with all those UNCERTAINTIES being at ease.
Why is it important?
A Fundamentals course’s purpose is to understand the theory and basic movements we use here at Phoenix. It’s a learning experience designed to slowly and gradually build the confidence to move into regular classes where you’ll continue to move safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Here are some significant reasons about the importance of Fundamentals:
New member safety
Safety is the number one priority in any of our classes. Our Fundamentals is methodical and generally a lower intensity learning environment, the basic movements are broken down into small segments to ensure correct performance. Your form and movement is critical for injury-prevention especially when transitioning into the higher-intensity regular classes.
It explains the general structure of a class
Our classes generally follow some sort of similar timeline to the one below.
Mobility
Teaches proper gym etiquette
Not everyone knows there’s a proper or courteous way to behave within any gym, The Fundamentals course sets the precedence for gym etiquette such as how to rack and un-rack barbells, how to stack weights, correctly spot, as well as set-up the rowers, etc. It’s time to leave that ego at the door. The only person you are competing against is yourself!
Set expectations
Our Fundamentals course is a great opportunity to get to know our coaches, and also to let them know more about you. You can discuss your fitness and health goals, any past injuries or issues they need to be aware of, it also gives them the opportunity to scale the main exercises and lifts we use and give extra where and when necessary all relevant to you.
Understand the value of quality over quantity
Yes, our classes can involve medium/heavy weights and high-intensity, but it’s imperative to understand that at Phoenix your safety always comes first. It’s absolutely OK to scale a weight down if something is tight or niggly, even if you’re an established athlete! because at Phoenix we leave our egos out of the box!
The course price is £50, you are unable to partially book the sessions as this is planned and designed to be completed fully in steps.
If you are keen to get involved and begin your journey, check out the courses we have scheduled below. Feel free to get in touch if you would like to chat some more or simply book your slot and we will be in touch!
